BARKSDALE PROGRAM

BACHELOR OF INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

To provide a flexible and individualized degree program through the unique combinations of different disciplines.

CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree requires 120 semester hours to complete. This includes 39 hours of General Education Requirements, three distinct minor areas consisting of 21 hours each, and 18 hours of approved electives. Specific requirements are listed below:

Students seeking a Bachelor's degree in the Barksdale Program must consult an undergraduate advisor to complete a plan of study.

ADMISSIONS

Students seeking admission to the Louisiana Tech University Barksdale Program must complete an application online at http://www.admissions.latech.edu/apply/index.php.     

RESIDENCY

The residency requirement is 30 hours which should occur during the last half of the degree requirements.  

ACADEMICS

Students must complete at least 36 hours of upper level (300 & 400 ) courses. No more than 9 hours of Independent Study (Liberal Arts 435 & Ind St 498 & 499) count for credit. No more than 27 hours of business courses apply to this degree. No more than two hours of activity HPE and two hours of music activity courses may count toward graduation. Graduates require a minimum of 2.0 grade point average in each minor with no grades of "D" or below, and a 2.0 overall.    

CLASSES

Courses are offered in 12-week quarters with the semester hour as the unit of credit. Most evening classes meet one night a week from 5:30 to 9:15 p.m. Some classes are offered online or during lunchtime hours.

MILITARY EXPERIENCE CREDIT*

Louisiana Tech University accepts armed services specialized training and experience as recommended by the American Council of Education. Tech uses the Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Services, (the ACE Guide ) published by the American Council on Education to determine credit. United States military service more than one year counts for six semester hours of credit. *The maximum allowed credit from experiential
sources is 30 semester hours. This credit is not computed in the academic grade point average.

CLEP Subject Examinations and DANTES Subject Standard Test (DSSTs) credits are granted as recommended in the ACE Guide.
